How To Fix Patchy Painted Ceiling

  1. Hi,i have simply rolled a ceiling with wickes merchandise brillent white. The ceiling is approx 20m2, from an angle (ie non directley underneth)you lot tin come across almost every stroke of the roller as the light hits it.Any ideas why please?
  2. Cam...purchase a better pigment. You get what you pay for.
    Cait
  3. paintycait is correct yous usually get what yous pay for with regard to paint every bit with virtually other things! Stick with a practiced brand name such as Leyland or Dulux Trade or other practiced quality pigment.

Get-go thing is to let the pigment fully dry earlier getting too excited as it won't look it's best until information technology is.

You lot don't say if it's new plaster or over existing finish- new plaster requires a mist coat (pigment thinned 20% with make clean h2o) and and then two total coats too achieve a good finish, I recently had to mist coat and put three total coats of matt white on a newly plastered ceiling before I was happy with the end.
If it'southward over existing finish it is very of import to throughly clean the surface with saccharide lather before painting.

Expert technique with the roller is also nigh of import to reach a good cease, make certain the roller is well loaded with paint and work a modest area at a time (couple sq m) become the paint on the ceiling, don't over roll information technology and and then terminate by going over it with very light strokes before moving on to the next surface area always keeping a wet border. Information technology helps if the room isn't too warm (heating off!) and if the light is poor I always use a 150w lamp in a holder clipped to a broom handle or similar, experiment with the position of the light till you tin come across where you've painted.

At that place's probably stuff I've missed out but if you search on here you will discover lots of useful tips to become a good cease, principal affair is to stick with information technology and it's always worth one actress glaze to get a job you'll be proud of.

    Good luck

  4. Is it silk or matt? If its silk then im not surprised as its the devils doings that stuff!

The tips from Blackpuddin will sort you lot out, at worst you will take to give it another coat, just roller in an reverse management this time. In its defense the Wickes contract matt isn't that bad, however as people say yous go what yous pay for and its a budget paint.

  5. Did you use a roller on a pole? All-time bet is to employ a 12" double armed frame (which are far more solid than single armed rollers) use a well filled pigment skuttle and brand certain your roller is fully primed with pigment. I dampen my sleeves before utilize so when fastened to the frame permit them sit in the paint skuttle for a few minutes to soak up some paint. And then using the roller on the pole work in areas of effectually 1.v metre squares at a fourth dimension, cover area well then back curl lightly to terminate. Work around the room until you're done.
  6. I don't really know what you hateful by 'see every stroke' it could be acquired by a number of things.

    - not rolling out properly - easy to practice on a ceiling - basically curl over everything twice to become an even coverage.

    - two thicknesses of pigment - thin pigment sets flatter and thick pigment tin give a bad rough stop.

    - if the ceiling is absorbent and dry out paint can harden almost instantly, and then , equally others have said work small patch by small patch.

  7. Good points there by blackpuddin. Re lighting I tend to go my team to use a 'day calorie-free' - they are a great way to get an almost natural light, mind you the tubes are quite expensive.
  8. If an amateur has a problem with a ceiling its usually down to option of product or awarding, all points covered by Jim.

If yous need "special lights" equally a pro on a ceiling then yous need new staff

  9. Nowt special virtually 'day light' lighting. In fact endeavor one or some. When we accept renovated places, the likes of York Minster after that terrible fire, they enable some of those amazing features to be recreated in situ, night or day. I suppose it depends what level you are working at, afterward all information technology was not your normal renovation and p&d chore.
  10. And so dont forget the fire at Windsor Castle that was a really superb job to get involved in renovating. That took some time but over again we often had specialist teams on the task 24/7. In fact I call up a p&d was originally to blame for that fire. Thank you to him, we got a lot of prestigous piece of work after that commission.
  11. Nothing wrong with paint used or price paid etc, just thin the paint about 10% with water and go over ceiling again you'll have no problems.
  12. try dulux supermatt, it really minimizes roller marks. thin the paint down, and make sure the roller has enough on and don't press too hard
